Dance Orchestras

Jazz permeated all facets of popular music during the 1920's. Although dance bands differed from jazz assemblies for their lack of spontaneous improvisation they played an important role in the development and mainstream acceptance of the genre. These large orchestras also provided steady employment which kept many musicians from starving during lean times.
