Louisiana Five

Among the earliest jazz groups to record extensively the "Louisiana Five" were organized in New York City by percussionist Anton Lada in 1917. The original line up consisted of pianist Joe Cawley, trombonist Charlie Panelli, and banjoist Karl Berger, with white New Orleans clarinetist Alcide "Yellow" Nunez recruited from Bert Kelly's band.
