Weary Blues
Louisiana Five
Feat. Alcide "Yellow" Nunez
This recording was produced in New York City in January 1919 featuring Alcide Nunez clarinet, Charlie Panelli trombone, Joe Cawley piano, Karl Berger banjo, and Anton Lada drums & leader.
*"Weary Blues" was composed by Artie Matthews.
This particular side was the recorded debut of a tune that would later become a jazz standard.
The "Louisiana Five" were the second New Orleans derived assembly to produce records following the tremendous success of the "Original Dixieland Jass Band".
Serving not only as the band's percussionist and leader, but also as their manager Anton Lada did all that he could to promote their own brand of "Jazz" by touring extensively and appearing on discs produced by numerous phonograph labels including Columbia, Emerson, lyric, Bell, Medallion, and Edison.
