(August 6th 1888 - March 29th 1953)
Born Abraham Finkelstein in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in 1888, he became a professional singer as an adolescent. Growing up in Utica, New York he gained experience touring with the "Guy Brother's Minstrel Show". Arthur published his first song "On The Mississippi" co-authored by Harry Carroll and lyricist Ballard MacDonald in 1912 and in 1914 began making records accompanied by a variety of bands. His 1919 recordings with Ford Dabney were the very first to feature a white singer backed by a black band.
