My Gal
Jelly Roll Morton's Jazz Trio
Feat. Volly De Faut
Recorded in Chicago during May of 1925 featuring Volly De Faut clarinet, W.E. "Buddy" Burton kazoo, and Jelly Roll Morton piano & leader.
*"My Gal" was composed by Walter Melrose.
Voltaire De Faut a reed player with a deceptively French name wasn't raised in New Orleans nor was he from Europe but was born in Little Rock, Arkansas and moved to Chicago in his youth.
Heard here after making his recording debut in 1924, De Faut's admirable clarinet work is almost bested on this side by the impassioned kazoo of another Windy City transplant and early '20's Morton cohort W.E. Buddy Burton.
