W. E. Buddy Burton
"W. Evans Burton Jr. Goes Solo"
This recording was made in Richmond, Indiana on April 21st 1928 featuring W.E. Buddy Burton piano & vocals.
*"It's No One But You" was written by W. E. Burton.
Evans Burton Jr. was originally from Louisville, Kentucky and headed north to Chicago sometime around 1922. His first recording session was in October of that year with "Jelly Roll Morton's Jazz Band". He made records with Jimmy Blythe and appeared on a number of 1920's South side Chicago jazz and blues recordings as a vocalist as well as playing drums, washboard, piano, celeste and kazoo.
A captivating solo performer, it wasn't until 1928 after some coaxing that Buddy Burton began to record his own songs accompanying himself on the piano.
