Vince Giordano's Nighthawks
"A Prairie Home Companion"
The November 14th 2015 broadcast of "A Prairie Home Companion" with Garrison Keillor presents "Vince Giordano's Nighthawks Orchestra".
Born on March 11th 1952 in Brooklyn, New York, Vince Giordano first developed his keen taste for vintage jazz early in life.
While many vintage jazz scholars including myself didn't discover their passion for the genre until they were well into adulthood, for Vince Giordano his life long interest began when he was only five.
During his formative years the future celebrated bandleader located important musical figures including Bill Challis, Chauncey Morehouse, and Joe Tarto; learning all he could from the musicians who were there.
Vince is currently the proud owner of a plethora of 78 records from the 1920's and 30's and more than sixty-thousand band arrangements.
In addition to numerous recording projects over the years Giordano's band were most recently selected to perform the soundtrack for the award-winning HBO mini-series "Boardwalk Empire".
For some forty years Vince Giordano has been keeping vintage jazz and dance alive in the New York area with his "Nighthawks Orchestra".
They can still be seen and heard in New York City every Monday and Tuesday at The Iguana.
