Recorded in New York City on January 27th 1927 with Ed Kirkeby vocals, Roy Johnston trumpet, Chelsea Quealey trumpet & violin, Tommy Dorsey trombone, Bobby Davis clarinet & alto sax, Sam Ruby tenor sax, Jack Russin piano, Tommy Felline banjo, Spencer Clark bass sax, and Herb Weil drums.

The "Varsity Eight" was a pseudonym for the "California Ramblers."

This group (aka the "California Ramblers") like many of the period recorded under various different names and had an ever changing lineup of musical talent to match. The most notable members to hold membership in its ranks were Red Nichols, Tommy and Jimmy Dorsey, and often bass saxophonist Adrian Rollini who was with the band from its start. They appeared as the "Varsity Eight" when recording material targeting the college crowd.
