What Makes You Treat Me This A-Way
Ardella Bragg & her Texas Blues Blowers
Feat. Tiny Parham
This record was made in Chicago during December 1926 featuring Ardella Bragg vocals, accompanied by her "Texas Blues Blowers" a group that consisted of Tiny Parham piano, Vance Dixon alto sax, and unknown banjo.
*"What Makes You Treat Me This A-Way" is a clever marriage of "Old Fashioned Love" and the traditional American folk song "Careless Love".
"Old Fashioned Love" was written by James P. Johnson and Cecil Mack.
"Careless Love" was published as "Loveless Love" by W.C. Handy.
Originally from Texas obscure blues singer Ardella 'Shelly' Bragg made her recording debut appearing on four sides for Paramount with a small group led by Tiny Parham in Chicago during August of 1926. Alternately known as Mamie Blackburn on the Herwin label, Ardella cut two more with the Parham Trio (including this one) in December of that year with the accompanists billed as her "Texas Blues Blowers". For her final session Miss Bragg would produce two more sides in February of 1927 backed by the solitary piano accompaniment of Tiny Parham once again.
