Keep Sweeping the Cobwebs Off the Moon
Ruth Etting
Feat. Ted Lewis
Recorded in New York City on December 23rd 1927 featuring Ruth Etting vocals, accompanied by Ted Lewis clarinet & leader, and his band.
*"Keep Sweeping the Cobwebs Off the Moon" was composed by Oscar Levant, with words written by Sam Lewis and Joe Young.
Although he was a celebrated bandleader and a beloved jazz personality Ted Lewis' squeaky and perpetually outdated clarinet playing (even by 1920's standards) has long been the subject of jokes, but his performance here is particularly bad even for him. Luckily, thanks to Ruth Etting's angelic voice this rendition of a new pop song is saved. Amazingly, Ted's peculiar reed treatment doesn't throw her off, Not Once !
