*"Blue River" was written by Joseph Meyer and Alfred Bryan.
In 1921 Sophie Tucker hired pianist and songwriter Ted Shapiro as her accompanist and musical director, a position he would keep throughout her career. Besides writing a number of songs for her Shapiro also became part of her stage act, playing piano while she sang. In addition the pianist would exchange banter and wisecracks with Sophie in between numbers to her audience's delight.
