Tub Jug Rag
Tub Jug Washboard Band
Feat. Herman Brown
Recorded in Chicago during June of 1928 featuring Martell Pettiford banjo, Herman Brown washboard, tub, & kazoo, and Carl Reid jazz horn & jug.
In spite of their rag tag assembly of homemade instruments jug bands often featured top ranking musicians who possessed a vast repertoire outside of common blues based themes.
Led by string player Martell Pettiford the "Tub Jug Washboard Band" cut this self titled showpiece in 1928 the same month and possibly during the same session that they served as accompanists to "Mother of the Blues", Gertrude 'Ma' Rainey.
