In this performance excerpt from the 1930 film "That's The Spirit" Cora La Redd is featured singing & dancing up a storm backed by the "Noble Sissle Band".

This highly energetic display is brought to us courtesy of Miss Cora La Redd a brilliant talent hailing from Harlem, New York. Often announced as the "Terpsichorean riot" for her rhythmic brilliance and open sexuality, Cora's tap dancing made her the most noted female soloist at the Cotton Club during the 1920's and '30's.

Cora La Redd became the lead dancer for bandleader Charlie Dixon (of "Fletcher Henderson Orchestra" fame), and received her first Broadway notices for her work in the 1928 musical comedy "Say When". For her spectacular performance in this production she was singled out by one reviewer as: "a sepia-tinted Zora O'Neal who combined limber-legged dancing with wah-wah singing".
