It Had to Be You
Ruth Etting
From "Melody in May"
"America's Sweetheart of Song" Ruth Etting is featured singing a popular standard in an excerpt from the 1936 film short "Melody in May".
In the film Etting finds herself stranded with engine trouble in a small town with no hotel and aids a young soda jerk named Tommy in his love life by helping him gain popularity and singing at his high school dance. Of the two numbers performed this spectacular rendition of "It Had to Be You" is the more memorable.
