This side was cut in New York City on October 1st 1928 featuring Duke Ellington piano.

*"Black Beauty" was composed by Duke Ellington.

His piano composition "Black Beauty" was among the very few solo recordings produced by Duke Ellington over the course of his lengthy career and one of only two sides recorded at this particular (October 1928) session. With his exceptional Orchestra at his disposal it is hard to figure Ellington's reasoning for not including them here. Because there were no records made featuring the band on this date, these sides may have been produced in an attempt to boost his sheet music sales.
