All Muddled Up
The Zez Confrey Orchestra
"Zez Confrey at the Keys"
This recording was made in New York City on October 13th 1922 featuring Zez Confrey piano & director, backed with orchestral accompaniment.
*"All Muddled Up" was composed by Zez Confrey.
Popular pianist and composer Edward Elzear "Zez" Confrey was born in Peru, Illinois in 1895.
Abandoning his aspirations of becoming a concert pianist in favor of composing, by 1916 Zez took a job at Witmarks in Chicago as a staff pianist.
After World War I the young pianist found employment as an arranger with the QRS piano roll company.
In 1921 Zez Confrey wrote and published his novelty piano solo "Kitten on the Keys", inspired by the sound of his grandmother's cat walking across the keyboard of her piano. -The piece became an instant success and would inspire the composition of many others.
"Dizzy Fingers" (1923) was Zez Confrey's only other big hit.
