'Papa' Charlie Jackson
The Sheik of Maxwell St.
Recorded in Chicago in August of 1925 featuring Papa Charlie Jackson six-string banjo & vocals.
After migrating from his home town New Orleans to Chicago sometime around 1920, banjoist and guitar player of flamboyant character, Charlie Jackson established himself as a popular fixture in dance halls and street corners of the Windy City. An artist of early prominence in the open-air market place of Maxwell St. his abilities on his instrument were only out weighted by his insurmountable knack for songwriting as the father of Hokum.
