Papa Charlie Jackson
Papa Charlie's New Orleans Roots
Recorded in Chicago during May of 1925 featuring 'Papa' Charlie Jackson six-string banjo & vocals.
It is a novelty song which truly reflects his New Orleans roots, performed originally in medicine and minstrel shows. From the time he first arrived in Chicago around 1920 Papa Charlie became a fixture of Chicago's notorious Maxwell St. where he built a career from successfully busking for tips.
