No One Knows What It's All About
Original Memphis Five
Feat. Charles Panelli
This recording was made in New York City during October of 1924 featuring Phil Napoleon trumpet, Charles Panelli trombone, Jimmy Lytell clarinet, Frank Signorelli piano, and Jack Roth drums.
*"No One Knows What It's All About" was composed by Harry Woods, with lyrics by Billy Rose.
Phil Napoleon and Frank Signorelli's "Original Memphis Five", founded in Coney Island in 1917, bridged the gap in popularity between white New Orleans assemblies like the "Original Dixieland Jass Band" and jazz pop groups such as the "California Ramblers". Straying from a strictly traditional based repertoire they successfully record jazzed versions of mainstream hits from the start.
