The Only Song I Know
Nick Lucas
From "The Show of Shows"
This excerpt from the 1929 Warner Brothers' musical revue "The Show of Shows" features a stellar performance from jazz guitar pioneer Nick Lucas.
In 1922 at the age of twenty-five Nick Lucas gained renown with his hit Pathe instrumental recordings "Picking the Guitar" and "Teasing the Frets". By the late 1920's he had become quite well known billed as "The Crooning Troubadour" due to the success of his Brunswick recordings. Then, in 1929 Nick Lucas landed the role of his career when he co-starred in the Warner Brothers' Technicolor musical "Gold Diggers of Broadway".
Following "Gold Diggers" tremendous success, that same year, Nick went on to appear in yet another Warner Brothers Technicolor production this time performing on stage in one of the film's few black and white sequences.
