Barataria
Halfway House Orchestra
Feat. Albert Brunies
This number was recorded in New Orleans on January 22nd 1925 by the Okeh Company's mobile recording unit with Albert Brunies on cornet, Leon Roppolo alto sax, Charlie Cordella clarinet, Bill Eastwood banjo, Bill Whitmore piano, Chink Martin tuba, and Leo Adde drums.
This tune is a fine example of the Halfway House Orchestra's wonderfully relaxed playing style. Okeh made a number of "field trips" to New Orleans and recorded many tunes by several bands however "Barataria" remains one of the best and most important examples of early white New Orleans Jazz.
