This side was recorded in Richmond, Indiana on August 30th 1922 with Paul Mares cornet, George Brunies trombone, Leon Roppolo clarinet, Jack Pettis c-melody sax, Elmer Schoebel piano, Louis Black banjo, Steve Brown bass, and Frank Snyder drums.
*"Panama" was composed by William H. Tyers.
Published under its original title "Panama, A Characteristic Novelty" in 1912, the piece became a standard favored by New Orleans' bands.
This group of Crescent City jazzers fronted by George Brunies and Paul Mares and calling themselves the "New Orleans Rhythm Kings" started out in Chicago performing at the Friars Inn located at 1834 Wabash Street and Van Buren. They had a lasting influence on many white Chicago area musicians.
