When I Lost You
Lee Morse & Her Bluegrass Boys
Lee Morse Sings Irving Berlin
This recording was made in New York City on June 6th 1928 featuring Lee Morse vocals, accompanied by her "Bluegrass Boys".
*"When I Lost You" was written by Irving Berlin.
The song "When I Lost You" was written in 1912 by Irving Berlin after his wife of five months, Dorothy, died of typhoid fever. It is an outpour of grief for his loss and was the only song that he ever admitted had a personal connection to his life.
In an extremely heart-felt performance in which she seems to bear her very soul, captivating songbird Lee Morse sings this mournful publication penned by Irving Berlin like no one else has - before or since.
On this Columbia release Miss Morse is accompanied by a studio band billed as her "Bluegrass Boys" that was made up of an alternating array of some of the top New York jazz musicians of the day.
