"Rare King Oliver"

This side was cut in New York City on September 10th 1928 with Joe 'King' Oliver and Ed Anderson cornets, J C Higginbotham trombone, Omer Simeon clarinet & alto sax, Barney Bigard clarinet & tenor sax, Luis Russell piano, Will Johnson banjo, Bass Moore tuba, and Paul Barbarin drums.

*"Aunt Hagar's Children's Blues" composed by W. C. Handy and first published in 1921, was a popular "evergreen" in '28 when the Oliver band recorded it. This Vocalion record no. 1225 in the "Race" series is one of the rarest by the Oliver band, and is the only source for a "master" pressing. All later 78 issues are dubbed and suffer audibly. We did a careful restoration of this slightly worn original, bringing the sound to optimal clarity. (Brad Kay)
