Josephine Baker traveled to Paris and opened in La Revue Negre on October 2nd 1925 at the Theater des Champs-Elysees. She became an instant success in the city for her erotic dancing. In later shows Josephine was often accompanied by her pet cheetah "Chiquita" who, adorned with a diamond collar, would frequently escape into the orchestra pit during the show terrorizing the musicians.
