Sugar Foot Stomp (1925 & 1930's)
Vince Giordano's Nighthawks
2010 Central Illinois Jazz Festival
Vince Giordano and his "Nighthawks" perform in Decatur, Illinois in February 2010 at the Juvae Jazz Society's 35th Annual Central Illinois Jazz Festival featuring Michael Ponella and Jon-Erik Kellso trumpets, Jim Fryer trombone, Mark Loperman and Dan Levinson clarinet, alto, & soprano sax, Dan Block clarinet & alto sax, Peter Yarin piano, Andy Stein violin & baritone sax, Vince Giordano string bass, bass sax, tuba, & director, Ken Salvo banjo, and Arnie Kinsella drums.
In a masterful performance "Giordano's Nighthawks" perform a tune that originated as the "Dipper Mouth Blues" by Louis Armstrong and King Oliver before it became "Sugar Foot Stomp" when it was recorded by Armstrong again with the "Fletcher Henderson Orchestra". This top notch jazz dance Orchestra provides two renditions here in order to display the stylistic differences between the mid-1920's and the later big band swing sound developed by Henderson.
