Shuffle Off To Buffalo
The Chocolate Kiddies
"Shufflin' Off with Johnny Dunn"
In this Dutch film short produced in Holland around 1933 "The Chocolate Kiddies" are captured during a performance featuring American trumpeter Johnny Dunn. Extremely rare, it is believed to be the only footage of Dunn to exist.
*"Shuffle Off To Buffalo" was written by Al Dubin and Harry Warren.
The song "Shuffle Off To Buffalo" first appeared in the 1933 film musical "42nd Street".
Alto saxophonist Lex van Spall and drummer Bobby T'Sas led a band called" The Chocolate Kiddies" in Holland for a period during the early 1930's.
In this 1933 film short guest trumpeter Johnny Dunn and trombonist Jake Green are paired with tenor saxophonist Jascha Trabsky.
Jascha would later operate a famous record shop at The Hague where jazz-lovers used to meet on Saturday mornings and browse through the piles of 78's.
For the last 40 seconds of this performance Johnny Dunn lights up both stage and screen with a spectacular horn solo and some even more impressive foot work.
