Skoodlum Blues
O'Bryant's Washboard Band
Feat. Jimmy Blythe
This side was recorded in Chicago during March of 1925 with Jimmy O'Bryant clarinet, Jimmy Blythe piano, and Jasper Taylor washboard.
*"Skoodlum Blues" was composed by Jimmy O'Bryant.
Of all 1920's Chicago clarinetists Jimmy O'Bryant was by far the most stylistically similar to Johnny Dodds. Like Dodds, O'Bryant was truly a one man show and required minimal accompaniment to get his point across. He seemed to possess boundless energy and inspiration, favoring to record in the freedom of washboard combos.
