New Crawley Blues
Wilton Crawley & The Washboard Rhythm Kings
Feat. Jelly Roll Morton
Recorded in New York City on June 3rd 1930 featuring Red Allen trumpet, Wilton Crawley clarinet, Charlie Holmes alto sax, Jelly Roll Morton piano, Teddy Bunn guitar, Pops Foster tuba, and Bruce Johnson washboard & drums.
*"New Crawley Blues" was composed by Wilton Crawley and Jelly Roll Morton.
This session produced an up dated version of Wilton's "Crawley Blues" which he had first recorded on May 31st 1927 backed by pianist Eddie Heywood. Henry 'Red' Allen who remembered Wilton Crawley as more of an actor/comedian than a serious musician recalled that Crawley was a bit put off by the fact that Jelly's group of musicians had been hired for the occasion instead of his own band.
