A Great Moment in Recorded Jazz History
This recording was made in Chicago on December 24th 1924 featuring a duet between Joe "King" Oliver cornet, and Jelly Roll Morton piano.
*"King Porter" was composed by Ferdinand "Jelly Roll" Morton.
The tune had been previously recorded by Morton on July 17th 1923 as "King Porter Stomp".
This recording of the two iconic New Orleans musicians Joe "King" Oliver and Ferdinand "Jelly Roll" Morton marked a monumental moment in jazz history. It is one of only two sides cut by the team and captured for all posterity at one monumental session held by the Autograph label at the end of 1924.
