Dr. Jazz
Jelly Roll Morton's Red Hot Peppers
"Jelly Sings !"
This record was made in Chicago on December 16th 1926 at the Webster Hotel featuring Jelly Roll Morton piano & vocals, George Mitchell trumpet, Kid Ory trombone, Omer Simeon clarinet & bass clarinet, Johnny St Cyr banjo, John Lindsay bass, and Andrew Hillaire drums.
*"Doctor Jazz" was written by Joe 'King' Oliver.
Publisher Walter Melrose is often also credited as the song's co-composer.
A point of particular interest is that this is the only recording from the '20's on which Jelly Roll Morton sings.
In fact he wasn't to sing on record again until the late 1930's.
