This recording was made in New York City on June 11th 1928 featuring Ward Pinkett cornet, Julius 'Geechie' Fields trombone, Omer Simeon clarinet, Jelly Roll Morton piano & leader, Lee Blair banjo, Bill Benford bass brass, and Tommy Benford drums.

Both Tommy and his older tuba playing brother Bill Benford were orphans at the Jenkins Orphanage in Charleston, South Carolina where they studied music and even traveled to England in 1914 with their school band. In the 1920's he had the privilege of playing with Duke Ellington, Eddie South, and Fats Waller. While in Europe during the 30's he recorded with the likes of Coleman Hawkins, Django Reinhardt, Joe Turner, Bill Coleman, and Sidney Bechet. Tommy cut records with many Jazz greats over his life-long career as a percussionist, even appearing on sides with the great Jelly Roll Morton.
