What's The Use Of Being Alone?
Johnny Dunn & His Band
Feat. Fats Waller & James P. Johnson
This recording was produced in New York City on March 26th 1928 featuring Johnny Dunn cornet, Herb Flemming trombone, Garvin Bushell clarinet & alto sax, unknown alto sax, James P. Johnson and Fats Waller piano, John Mitchell banjo, and Mort Perry drums.
*"What's The Use Of Being Alone?" was composed by Perry Bradford.
After reaching his zenith, producing four fantastic sides with pianist Jelly Roll Morton just two weeks earlier, Johnny Dunn teams up with two jazz piano greats Fats Waller and James P. Johnson simultaneously for what would be the final recording session of his career. Once the King of New York horn stylists he moved to Europe permanently soon after and died of T.B. in Paris less than ten years later. By then Johnny Dunn's playing was considered outdated - his former celebrity largely forgotten.
