Bleeding Hearted Blues
James P. Johnson
Lovie's Bleeding Heart
Recorded in Camden, New Jersey on July 25th 1923 featuring James P Johnson piano.
*"Bleeding Hearted Blues" was written by Cora Calhoun (aka Lovie Austin).
A scholar of both ragtime and classical music in boyhood, James P. Johnson made his up way from the sporting houses and graduated to Vaudeville.
Eventually he earned the unexaggerated reputation as the best pianist on the East Coast.
After making his solo recording debut in 1921 with "Carolina Shout" he went on to be a featured pianist often accompanying early jazz singers on more than four-hundred releases.
James P. Johnson continued to record piano solos sporadically throughout his career.
