In this 1952 TV performance Jack Teagarden is backed by Charlie Teagarden trumpet, Don Bonnee clarinet, Heinie Beau alto sax, Pud Brown tenor sax, Marvin Ashbaugh piano, Ray Leatherwood bass, and Ray Bauduc drums.

Jack Teagarden was born August 20th 1905 in Vernon, Texas where he would first develop his largely self-taught, uniquely expressive style of trombone. At the age of seven he began accompanying his mother who played piano at the local movie theater. In 1920 Jack was performing professionally in San Antonio and touring the U. S. with various bands by mid-decade, before arriving in New York in 1927.

Teagarden is held in high regard for freeing the trombone from its traditional tailgate role in New Orleans brass bands to that of an expressive solo instrument.
