Ace Of Rhythm
Jabbo Smith's Rhythm Aces
"Jabbo's Travels"
This side was recorded in Chicago on March 1st 1929 featuring Jabbo Smith trumpet, Omer Simeon clarinet & alto sax, Cassino Simpson piano, Ikey Robinson banjo, and Hayes Alvis tuba.
*"Ace Of Rhythm" was composed by Cladys "Jabbo" Smith.
Before arriving in Chicago at the end of his tour with James P. Johnson in 1928, Jabbo Smith had already been performing in Manhattan for a couple of years. By that time he had also played with several bands in Philadelphia and Atlantic City. Years before as a young orphan Jabbo received his first musical training on trumpet and trombone at the Jenkins Orphanage in Charleston, South Carolina and was touring with the orphanage band by the time he was ten.
