Smiling Skies
Benny Meroff Orchestra
Feat. "Wild Bill" Davison
This side was produced in new York City on December 9th 1928 featuring Bill Davison cornet, Al Marineau trombone, Benny Meroff violin, Sid Pritikin guitar, and Benny Metz drums.
*"Smiling Skies" was composed by Charley Straight and Milton Samuels, with lyrics by Walter Hirsch.
Bill Davison's debut recordings were made as a member of a large ensemble the "Chubb-Steinberg Orchestra" in 1925 when he was 19. Unlike those first sides where Davison's horn is lost in the mix, here his full power comes through on record. Later on in his career Bill Davison would earn the nick-name "Wild Bill" for both his untamed horn and life styles.
