This recording was produced in Kansas City, Missouri on November 11th 1929 featuring Edgar Battle and Gene Prince trumpets, Alan Durham trombone, John Harrington clarinet & alto sax, John Williams alto & baritone sax, Lawrence Freeman tenor sax, Claude Williams violin, Mary Lou Williams piano & arranger, Bill Dirvin banjo & guitar, and Andy Kirk bass sax, tuba, & director, Ed McNeil drums.

*"Mess-A-Stomp" was composed by Mary Lou Williams.

Andy Kirk joined Terence Holder's "Dark Clouds of Joy" in Dallas in 1925 playing the bass saxophone and tuba.

After Kirk assumed control of the band in 1929, they would come to be known as "Andy Kirk's Clouds of Joy".
