In this live recording made in New Orleans in 1950, George Lewis introduces his band to the audience before launching into the old favorite "Willie the Weeper".

The musicians are: Elmer Talbert, Kid Howard, and Percy Humphrey trumpets, Jim Robinson trombone, George Lewis clarinet, Alton Purnell piano, Lawrence Marrero banjo, Alcide Pavageau string bass, and Joe Watkins drums.

Beginning in 1949 George Lewis became a regular playing the clubs along Bourbon Street in New Orleans' French Quarter. During this period he and his band were frequently performed for broadcasts over local radio station WDSU. The following year the "George Lewis Band" would gain international attention when they were featured in an informative article complete with accompanying photographs published in the June 6th 1950 issue of "Look" magazine.
