Feat. Tommy Ladnier

This side was recorded in New York City on December 8th 1926 by the "Fletcher Henderson Orchestra" featuring Russell Smith, Joe Smith, and Tommy Ladnier trumpets, Benny Morton trombone, Buster Bailey clarinet, soprano, & alto sax, Don Redman clarinet, alto sax, & arranger, Coleman Hawkins clarinet, tenor, & baritone sax, Fletcher Henderson piano, Charlie Dixon banjo, June Cole tuba, and Kaiser Marshall drums.

*"Hot Mustard" was composed by Fletcher Henderson.

Starting out with a solid intro featuring the horn of Tommy Ladnier this very original Fletcher Henderson arrangement soon gives way to a riff that would be best described as a "controlled flurry of reeds". Indicative of the creative and tight assembly work for which his band was known it is just one of a number of instrumental treats along the way on this rather high register master-work lovingly dedicated to a favorite sandwich condiment.
