She's Funny That Way
Jabbo Smith and Hot Antic Jazz Band
France, 1982
In this segment filmed in France in 1982 Jabbo Smith trumpet & vocals, performs with the "Hot Antic Jazz Band" consisting of Michel Bastide cornet & valve trombone, Jean-Francois Bonnel clarinet, soprano, alto, & tenor sax, Gilles Berrut piano, Jean-Pierre Dubois banjo, and Christian Lefevre tuba.
Once considered a talent on the level of Louis Armstrong, Jabbo proves his case with a spectacular performance eleven years after the death of his more successful onetime competitor. The songs, "She's Funny That Way" and "Sweet Georgia Brown" were two popular standards of the 1920's Chicago jazz scene.
