My Gal Sal
Mound City Blue Blowers
From "The Opry House"
The "Mound City Blue Blowers" are featured performing "My Gal Sal" in this excerpt from their 1929 film short, "The Opry House". The group captured here consists of Red McKenzie can-kazoo & vocals, Jack Bland banjo, Carl Kress guitar, and Josh Billings playing percussion (with whisk brooms on a suitcase) & dancing.
*"My Gal Sal" was written by Paul Dresser. Although Dresser was a vaudeville performer himself, the song was first committed to record in 1905 by Byron G. Harlan of "Collins & Harlan".
