Black Gypsy
Eddie South
"Eddie & The Gypsies"
This recording was made in Chicago during the late 1930's featuring violinist Eddie South.
During the early 1920's, Eddie South worked in Chicago ensembles such as "Jimmy Wade's Syncopators", and the bands of Charlie Elgar, and Erskine Tate. He traveled to Europe for the first time in 1928 where he studied at the Paris Conservatoire de Musique. Eddie became deeply enamored with Gypsy melodies that he heard on a visit to Budapest and would often weave them into his jazz improvisations.
