The Grind Out
Boyd Senter Trio
Feat. Eddie Lang
This recording was made in New York City on March 20th 1928 featuring Boyd Senter clarinet & leader, Eddie Lang guitar, and Jack Russell piano.
*"The Grind Out" was composed by Jack Russell.
On this number written by his frequent collaborator Jack Russell, Boyd Senter's clarinet possesses a refreshing soulful strength in its attack. A rather modern sounding piece for the time, Russell's solo serves to further enforce this observation. Eddie Lang is also present but mainly in a strictly rhythmic capacity. He dose however enhance this performance with a number of background embellishments, the most prominent being the series of bass runs which occur at the very beginning.
