Midnight Call Blues
Blind Willie Dunn & Lonnie Johnson
Feat. Eddie Lang (as Blind Willie Dunn)
This side was produced in New York City on October 9th 1929 featuring Eddie Lang guitar, and Lonnie Johnson twelve-string guitar.
*"Midnight Call Blues" is credited to Lonnie Johnson and Eddie Lang.
Because of the racist social climate of the era Eddie Lang and Lonnie Johnson could only appear together on record with Eddie billed as the fictitious Blind Willie Dunn. This was because, fearing a catastrophic decrease in sales, record companies at the time would not feature a black and white artist on the same release (at least not with the public's knowledge). Nevertheless despite bigoted racial boundaries this dynamic duo would produce some of the hottest and innovative guitar jazz of the 1920's.
