On The Air with Condon

In this 1944 clip from show #7 we hear Eddie and the band with Bobby Hackett cornet, Benny Morton trombone, Pee Wee Russell clarinet (one of the most popular musicians among the serviceman), Gene Schroeder piano, Ernie Caceres baritone sax, Sid Weiss bass, and Gene Krupa drums.

In this excerpt the band perform "The Lady is in Love with You" and "China Boy".

In 1944 "Eddie Condon and his All-Stars" began scheduled half hour radio broadcasts from Town Hall in New York on every Saturday afternoon at 1.30 pm. The performances were transcribed by the Armed Forces Radio Service and re-broadcast around the world. The show won the first prize in the G.I. popularity poll and continued to entertain listeners until 1947. Some fifty of these programs were prerecorded with many different musicians featured weekly.
