The Sheik
Rudy Wiedoeft's Californians
"The C-melody Sheik"
Recorded in New York City in 1921 featuring Rudy Wiedoeft c-melody sax & leader, accompanied by his band the "Californians".
*"The Sheik of Araby" (or "The Sheik") was composed by Ted Snyder, with words by Harry B. Smith and Francis Wheeler and published in 1921. It was written in response to the popularity of the Rudolph Valentino film "The Sheik" released in October of that year and became a standard virtually overnight. This new tune was a perfect canvas to showcase saxophone virtuoso Rudy Wiedoeft's rapid runs and signature vibrato.
