Clarinetist and eccentric dancer George McClennon was a performer active in vaudeville for a twenty-seven year run starting in 1910. A primer aficionado of a novelty style of playing sometimes referred to as "gas pipe" he reveled in using his instrument to produce strange animal sounds. His recording career began in 1923 with the "Harlem Trio". As the adopted son of comedian Bert Williams he too frequently performed in blackface. McClennon died in Chicago from TB in 1937.
