Mr. Crump Rag
Jesse Crump
"Tiny"
This piano solo was recorded by Jesse Crump in Richmond, Indiana on July 20th 1923.
Pianist Jesse Crump was born in Texas in 1906. He made his first two recordings for the Gennett Records label when he was just 16. Theses sides never saw commercial release, but the company did press a few (extremely rare) promotional copies. Nicknamed "Tiny", Crump played on the TOBA theater circuit where he eventually met singer Ida Cox. They made many recordings and toured together and later married. Jesse's last records were produced in 1956 with jazz trumpeter Bob Scobey. Jesse Crump passed away in 1974.
