You Can Depend On Me
Earl Hines
"What is there left to hear?"
Earl 'Fatha' Hines plays in his uniquely indulgent piano style during a 1960 concert in New York.
In 1960 Earl Hines settled in Oakland, California, with his wife and two young daughters, opened a tobacco store, and almost retired form music entirely. Thankfully Hines was rediscovered by an adoring public following a series of recitals at The Little Theater in New York. It was all made possible by his friend Stanley Dance, who talked him into booking these engagements. They were the first piano recitals Earl had ever given and caused an immediate sensation. "What is there left to hear after you've heard Earl Hines?", asked The New York Times.
